Brandon Sanderson

Brandon Sanderson (born 19 December 1975 in Lincoln, Nebraska) is an American fantasy novelist, author of the Mistborn and Stormlight Archive series and the writer chosen to complete Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time.

He studied at Brigham Young University, taking a BA in 2000 and an MA in creative writing in 2004, and had written twelve novels by 2003 without a sale. Tor Books issued the sixth of them, Elantris, on 21 April 2005, the first book set in his shared fictional universe, the Cosmere. Mistborn: The Final Empire followed in 2006, and The Way of Kings (2010) began The Stormlight Archive, planned as ten books. In December 2007 Harriet McDougal chose him to finish The Wheel of Time after Jordan's death, and the final volume, A Memory of Light, appeared in January 2013. His novella The Emperor's Soul won the 2013 Hugo Award. In March 2022 his Kickstarter campaign for four secret novels raised $41,754,153 from 185,341 backers, the largest total in the platform's history. His company, Dragonsteel, acts as publisher, shop and producer for his work, and his agency reported more than 50 million copies sold worldwide by late 2025.

The Tor first edition of Elantris (April 2005) is his first book; a Science Fiction Book Club hardcover followed in May 2005 and should not be mistaken for it. Elantris also exists in a tenth anniversary edition (October 2015) with about 10,000 words of extra material and a Dragonsteel leatherbound edition (December 2015).
