About Julia Quinn

Julia Quinn (born 1970) is the pen name of Julie Pottinger, née Cotler, an American historical romance novelist whose Bridgerton novels, beginning with The Duke and I in 2000, inspired the Netflix series Bridgerton.

She was born on 12 January 1970. She attended the Hotchkiss School and Harvard, where she took a degree in the history of art, and was accepted by Yale School of Medicine; she deferred, then left after two months to write full time. Her first novel, Splendid, was published by Avon on 1 May 1995, and her first two books drew a bidding war between publishers.

The Duke and I (Avon, 5 January 2000) opened the Bridgerton series. The Viscount Who Loved Me, the second Bridgerton book, was later named by TIME as one of its 50 best romance novels. After the Netflix adaptation premiered on 25 December 2020, The Duke and I spent weeks at number one on the New York Times list. She was inducted into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame in 2010. Her books have been translated into 43 languages, with more than 20 million copies in print in the United States. She lives in the Pacific Northwest.

For collectors. The Duke and I was first published by Avon as a mass-market paperback on 5 January 2000 (ISBN 0380800829, 384 pages), and her debut, Splendid, came from Avon in May 1995. Check the date on the copyright page to separate an original printing from later reissues.
