How to identify this edition

Doubleday published the novel in New York in 1956, after its serialisation in Astounding Science Fiction. The first British edition is the Michael Joseph hardback, London 1958, about 208 pages, bound in black boards with white spine lettering and issued in a dust jacket priced 13s. 6d. net. Uncorrected proofs in wrappers exist. A Science Fiction Book Club edition of 1959, by arrangement with Michael Joseph, is bound in blue cloth and should not be mistaken for the first.
