Quick answer

Who published the Saved by the Light 1994 hardback?
BCA, London, in 1994, in hardback.
What decides the price
  • It is the first UK edition; the true first was published elsewhere.
  • The original dust jacket carries much of the price for a book of this age; its condition matters as much as the book's.
  • Condition is graded separately for book and jacket, from Fine down to Poor.

Publisher's practice

How BCA marked its first editions

BCA books are book club editions produced under licence from the trade publisher, so they are distinct from that publisher's own first edition.

  • The copyright page or title page names BCA (or Book Club Associates) together with the trade publisher, for example "Book Club Associates in association with Jonathan Cape" or "published ... by BCA by arrangement with Hodder & Stoughton".
  • The jacket usually carries no printed price.
  • Each BCA title has a catalogue code beginning "CN" (for example CN 6682), which collectors use to identify the BCA version.

Read the full guide to BCA first editions, decade by decade, and check your copy's copyright page against it. Our number line decoder reads the printing from the row of numbers.
