About Georgie Ripper
Georgie Ripper (born 1977) is an English children's book illustrator, born in London, best known as the original illustrator of the Rainbow Magic fairy books published by Orchard Books from 2003.
Ripper studied illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. She won the Macmillan Prize for Children's Illustration in 2000, and Macmillan published two picture books she both wrote and illustrated: Little Brown Bushrat (2002) and My Best Friend Bob (2003). For Egmont she illustrated Linda Newbery's A Dog Called Whatnot (2005) and its sequel Whatnot Takes Charge (2006).
Rainbow Magic, credited to the collective pseudonym Daisy Meadows and created by the book packager Working Partners, began in 2003. Ripper drew the interior illustrations for the early books from 2003 to around 2006 and the covers to around 2007, after which Orchard's in-house illustrators took over. The series went on to become the most borrowed children's books in UK libraries in 2010.
For collectors
Ripper's art is on the early Orchard Books Rainbow Magic titles, beginning with the first books of 2003. Orchard's in-house artists took over the interiors from 2007 and the covers from 2008, so check the illustrator credit on later printings and later series.
