About Graphix
Graphix is the graphic novel imprint of the American children's publisher Scholastic. It launched in 2005 with a full-colour edition of Jeff Smith's Bone.
David Saylor joined Scholastic as a creative director in 1996 and founded the imprint. He began looking into a comics list around 2002, helped by colleagues who shared his interest, including Janna Morishima and Sheila Keenan. The first book was a colour edition of Bone #1: Out from Boneville, and by 2015 the Bone series had sold more than 6.9 million copies. Saylor went on to become the publisher of the Graphix list.
Graphix is best known for books for young readers. By 2015 it had 14 New York Times bestsellers, among them Raina Telgemeier's Smile, Drama and Sisters. Drama won a Stonewall Book Award, and Smile received a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award Honor. Its other series include Kazu Kibuishi's Amulet and Mike Maihack's Cleopatra in Space. For the imprint's tenth anniversary in 2015, Scholastic issued a Bone tribute edition with art by sixteen other artists.
Maurice Robinson founded Scholastic in 1920 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, and the company is now based in New York City.
