About MacGibbon & Kee

MacGibbon & Kee was a British publishing house founded in 1948 by the Scottish publisher James MacGibbon and Robert Kee.

By the 1960s it was the publisher of Brian O'Nolan, who wrote as Flann O'Brien. He died in 1966 with The Third Policeman, written in 1939 and 1940, still unpublished; his widow, Evelyn O'Nolan, sent the typescript to MacGibbon & Kee, which brought it out in 1967. Its list also included David Lodge's The British Museum Is Falling Down (1965).

The Granada Group bought MacGibbon & Kee in 1968, having already acquired Rupert Hart-Davis Ltd in 1963. In 1972 Granada combined the two houses as Hart-Davis, MacGibbon. When Granada left publishing in 1983 it sold the business to William Collins, Sons of Glasgow.
