About Point

Point is a Scholastic imprint for teenage readers, best known as the home of Point Horror, a young adult horror series that Scholastic launched in 1991.

Scholastic was founded by Maurice R. Robinson in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, where its first school magazine appeared on 22 October 1920. The company is now headquartered in New York City and set up a publishing base in England in 1964. Alongside the main Point list it ran related Point SF and Point Fantasy imprints.

When Point Horror began in 1991, Scholastic reissued earlier Point thrillers under the new label. Its writers included R. L. Stine, whose Blind Date (1986) was one of his first books, Caroline B. Cooney, Richie Tankersley Cusick, Christopher Pike, L. J. Smith and Diane Hoh. Offshoot series carried the Point Horror logo, among them Point Horror Unleashed and Hoh's Nightmare Hall, which ran to 29 numbered titles dated 1993 to 1995.

After an eight-year gap, Scholastic announced new Point Horror titles for 2013 and 2014. The Point name also appears on later teenage novels, such as Meg Cabot's Airhead, first issued in hardback in May 2008.
