Anne Mather books in order

Anne Mather is the main pen name of Mildred Grieveson, a British romantic novelist born in England in 1946, who has written more than 160 romance novels, most of them for Mills & Boon and Harlequin.

She has also published as Caroline Fleming and Cardine Fleming. Her first book, Caroline, appeared in 1965 when she was 19; it was the first story she had ever finished, and she sent it to a publisher at her husband's suggestion. Her first five novels came out in hardback from Robert Hale before Mills & Boon reissued them in paperback, and Dangerous Enchantment (May 1969) was the first of her books issued entirely through Mills & Boon. In 1973 she was one of the launch authors of the Harlequin Presents line, for which the University of Birmingham Romance Wiki credits her with more than 140 titles, alongside six Harlequin Romance novels. Well-known titles include Leopard in the Snow (1974), The Devil in Velvet (1977) and Sandstorm (1980).

Leopard in the Snow was made into a feature film released in 1978.

For collectors. Her earliest books exist in two forms: the Robert Hale hardbacks of the first five novels, which came before the Mills & Boon paperbacks most readers know, and the later Mills & Boon and Harlequin numbered series editions. The Romance Wiki lists Caroline as Mills & Boon Romance number 513, dated October 1970, which is a reissue rather than the 1965 first appearance. Check the publisher and date on the title page carefully, as the same text was often reprinted under several imprints.
