Brad Thor

Brad Thor (born 1969) is an American thriller writer, author of the long-running Scot Harvath series of spy novels. He was born Bradley George Thor Jr. in Chicago on 21 August 1969 and studied creative writing under T. C. Boyle at the University of Southern California, graduating cum laude.

His first novel, The Lions of Lucerne (2002), introduced Scot Harvath, and Harvath has carried almost all of his fiction since, through titles such as Path of the Assassin (2003), Blowback (2005), The First Commandment (2007), The Last Patriot (2008) and Foreign Influence (2010); the series had reached 25 books by Choke Point (2026). The Last Patriot was nominated for the International Thriller Writers' best thriller of the year award, and NPR listeners voted Blowback into their list of the 100 best thrillers. He also wrote The Athena Project (2010), a spin-off about a team of female operatives, contributed the story "The Athens Solution" to the James Patterson anthology Thriller, and published the standalone Cold Zero (2026) with Ward Larsen. His website describes him as a number one New York Times bestselling author. Thor is a regular contributor to American television news programmes, including shows on Fox News.

The early Harvath novels are the natural starting point for a collection. Open Library records the first edition of The Lions of Lucerne as a 2002 Pocket Books publication, with a Pocket Star edition following in 2007, so the 2002 Pocket Books issue is the one to seek.
