Emma Darcy

Emma Darcy is the pen name of the Australian husband-and-wife writing team Frank Brennan (1936-1995) and Wendy Brennan (1940-2020), whose 106 romance novels for Harlequin Mills & Boon sold more than 71 million copies between 1983 and 2013.

Wendy Brennan was born in Dorrigo, New South Wales, on 28 November 1940 and died at Forresters Beach, New South Wales, on 12 December 2020. The couple's first book appeared in 1983, after the Mills & Boon editor Jacqui Bianchi asked them to rewrite their manuscript. They wrote more than 45 novels together, and after Frank's death in 1995 Wendy kept writing under the same name until 2013, with help from Marilyn Callaghan as project manager. The books are romances, some with suspense plots, and all 106 were published as category romances by Harlequin Mills & Boon. Titles include Pattern of Deceit (1989), The Velvet Tiger, Breaking Point and The Wedding (1992), and A Marriage Betrayed and The Secret Mistress (1999). The National Library of Australia names Emma Darcy, alongside Lucy Walker, Valerie Parv and Jennifer Ames, among the most successful women authors of the twentieth century who wrote romance for Mills and Boon.

For collectors. All 106 Emma Darcy books were category romances from Harlequin Mills & Boon, so the first printings are the original paperbacks in those lines; check both the Harlequin and the Mills & Boon editions of a title when looking for the earliest printing.
