Jonathan Cape published his first novel and remains his UK publisher, so the Cape hardbacks are the UK first editions. The Cement Garden was first published by Cape in 1978 as a 138-page hardback. Atonement was first published by Cape in London in 2001 as a 371-page hardback (ISBN 0-224-06252-2) with a jacket designed by Suzanne Dean; the American edition followed from Nan A. Talese/Doubleday in April 2002. Atonement was shortlisted for the 2001 Booker Prize and filmed by Joe Wright in 2007.
