Kat Martin

Kat Martin (born 1947) is an American author of historical and contemporary romance and romantic suspense, known for series such as the Garrick novels and the Necklace trilogy.

Born Kathleen Kelly Martin on 14 July 1947 in the Central Valley of California, she studied anthropology and history at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is married to the writer and photographer Larry Jay Martin, and the couple live in Missoula, Montana. She has written under three pen names.

Her first novel, Magnificent Passage, was published in 1988, followed by Dueling Hearts (1989), Captain's Bride (1990) and Lover's Gold (1991). In 1992 St. Martin's Paperbacks published Gypsy Lord, the first Garrick novel, followed by Sweet Vengeance (1993) and Devil's Prize (1995); Dell published her Southern novels Creole Fires (1992) and Savannah Heat. Later came the Necklace trilogy, The Bride's Necklace (2005), The Devil's Necklace (2005) and The Handmaiden's Necklace (2006). Her bibliography runs to more than fifty titles.

For collectors. Open Library records Pageant Books for Magnificent Passage and Dueling Hearts, Diamond Books for Captain's Bride and Lover's Gold, and St. Martin's Paperbacks for Gypsy Lord and Sweet Vengeance. These first printings are the earliest forms of her work. The Romance Wiki lists her among RITA Award finalists and dates her debut to 1988.
