About Michael Kupperman

Michael Kupperman (born 1966) is an American cartoonist, writer and illustrator known for the absurdist comic Tales Designed to Thrizzle and the graphic memoir All the Answers (2018). He was born on 26 April 1966, spent part of his childhood in England and lives in Brooklyn, New York.

His comic strips include Up All Night and Found in the Street, and his illustrations have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times and elsewhere; he has also written scripts for DC Comics and contributed to Marvel titles including Strange Tales. His duo Snake and Bacon starred in Snake 'n' Bacon's Cartoon Cabaret (HarperCollins, 2000), were animated for Comedy Central's TV Funhouse and later starred in a one-off pilot made for Adult Swim. Fantagraphics has published Tales Designed to Thrizzle since 2005, collecting issues 1 to 4 in 2009 and issues 5 to 8 in 2012, as well as his parody Mark Twain's Autobiography 1910-2010 (2011). His strip "Moon 1969", from Thrizzle volume 2 number 8, won an Eisner Award in 2013. All the Answers, published by Simon & Schuster in May 2018, tells the story of his father, Joel Kupperman, a 1940s Quiz Kid, and was named a Publishers Weekly best book of the year.

For collectors

The single issues of Tales Designed to Thrizzle and the 2000 HarperCollins Snake 'n' Bacon's Cartoon Cabaret are his core early publications. Some bookseller listings credit him as an illustrator, alongside Brett Helquist, on books 2 to 13 of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events; his published bibliography does not mention the series, so check the title page of any copy before attributing it to him.
