Stephenie Meyer (born 1973) is an American novelist best known as the author of the Twilight vampire romance series, which her official site says has sold more than 160 million copies. She was born Stephenie Morgan in Hartford, Connecticut, on 24 December 1973 and graduated in English literature from Brigham Young University in 1997.

Meyer has said the idea for Twilight came from a dream on 2 June 2003, and she completed the novel in about three months. Of fifteen letters she sent to literary agents, only one brought a positive reply, from Jodi Reamer of Writers House. Eight publishers then competed for the book at auction, and by November 2003 she had signed a three-book deal with Little, Brown and Company. Twilight (2005) was followed by New Moon (2006), Eclipse (2007) and Breaking Dawn (2008), and by the novella The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (2010). Her adult science fiction novel The Host (2008) debuted at number one on the New York Times list, and she later published The Chemist (2016) and Midnight Sun (2020), which retells the events of Twilight from Edward Cullen's perspective. She was the best-selling author in the United States in both 2008 and 2009. The Twilight novels became a series of films, and The Host was filmed in 2013.

The first edition of Twilight is the book to look for: Little, Brown published it in hardback on 5 October 2005, with a reported print run of 75,000 copies. Her early drafts carried the title Forks, which was changed at the publisher's request.
