Identification

How to identify this edition

Published by Arthur Barker in London on 4 May 1934. Black cloth, both covers blank, the spine lettered in gilt. There is a half title and a folding genealogical table tipped in at the end. The jacket was designed by John Aldridge. Barker reprinted it many times from May 1934 (a second and third impression in the same month), so check the title verso for an impression statement. The novel was a Book Society choice, and copies often carry the Book Society bookplate.
