About Disney-Hyperion
Disney-Hyperion is the children's and young adult imprint of Disney Publishing Worldwide, best known for Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books, which began life as Hyperion Books for Children.
Disney set up its trade publishing arm around 1990 to 1991 (sources differ on the year) under chief executive Michael Eisner and Robert S. Miller, with the adult house Hyperion alongside Hyperion Books for Children and Disney Press. The children's imprint was started from scratch to compete with the biggest children's publishers, and in March 1995 it merged with Disney Press. The adult Hyperion list moved to Disney's ABC group in 1999 and was sold to Hachette Book Group in 2013, becoming Hachette Books; Disney kept the young adult titles, which went to the Disney-Hyperion imprint.
Its authors include Rick Riordan, Mo Willems, Lane Smith, Eoin Colfer, Ally Carter, Melissa de la Cruz and Cinda Williams Chima, and Avi's Crispin: The Cross of Lead won the 2003 Newbery Medal. Riordan's The Lightning Thief was first published by Miramax Books in July 2005, with later editions under the Disney-Hyperion name.
