About Flamingo

Flamingo was a London literary imprint of HarperCollins, now defunct, whose UK first editions include novels by Martin Amis and J. G. Ballard. HarperCollins itself was formed when News Corp, having bought Harper & Row in 1987, merged it with the British house Collins in 1989; Flamingo now appears among HarperCollins's discontinued imprints.

The imprint's best-known first editions include Martin Amis's The Information (1995), published in the US by Harmony Books and famous for the advance of around £500,000 that Amis received, and J. G. Ballard's late novels Cocaine Nights (1996, hardback) and Super-Cannes (2000), both first published by Flamingo in the UK (Cocaine Nights in London). Other books on its list include Meera Syal's Anita and Me, Penelope Fitzgerald's The Blue Flower, Doris Lessing's The Sweetest Dream and Arundhati Roy's essay collection The Algebra of Infinite Justice.
