About Little, Brown Young Readers
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (LBYR) is the children's and young adult division of Little, Brown and Company, publishing since 1926 and now part of Hachette Book Group, the US arm of Hachette Livre.
The division began at Little, Brown's Boston office at 34 Beacon Street; the parent company, founded in Boston in 1837 by Charles Little and James Brown, moved its headquarters to New York in 2001 and has been a division of Hachette Book Group since 2006. LBYR marks its centenary in 2026.
Its own timeline of landmark books runs from Invincible Louisa (1933) and Ben and Me (1939) through By the Great Horn Spoon! (1963), I Know What You Did Last Summer (1973) and the Newbery winners Maniac Magee (1990) and Crispin: The Cross of Lead (2002). Later titles include Stephenie Meyer's Twilight (2005), the National Book Award winner The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (2007), The Mysterious Benedict Society (2007) and The Wild Robot (2016). In 2020 the line added about 1,000 young readers' titles bought from Disney Book Group.
Today LBYR publishes picture books, middle-grade and young adult titles and a school and library list, with imprints including LB Kids, JIMMY Patterson Books, Christy Ottaviano Books, Alvina Ling Books and Little, Brown Ink.
