About Roaring Brook Press
Roaring Brook Press was an American children's book imprint formed in 2001 within Millbrook Press of Connecticut, which issued its first list of about 20 picture books and novels in spring 2002 under publisher Simon Boughton, formerly publishing director of Random House's Knopf and Crown imprints.
The imprint won Caldecott Medals early with Eric Rohmann's My Friend Rabbit and Mordicai Gerstein's The Man Who Walked Between the Towers. After Millbrook filed for bankruptcy in February 2004, Holtzbrinck agreed to buy Roaring Brook, which then had a backlist of 65 hardcovers, and to run it as a division affiliated with Henry Holt, with staff staying in Brookfield, Connecticut.
Within Macmillan Children's Publishing Group it published picture books, fiction and nonfiction, including the Caldecott winners A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead and Erin E. Stead and We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom and Michaela Goade. In April 2026 Macmillan Children's Publishing Group announced that it was closing the Roaring Brook imprint and launching a new, then unnamed, imprint for nonfiction and illustrated books.
