About World's Work
World's Work Ltd was a British publisher based at The Windmill Press, Kingswood, Tadworth, Surrey, whose list included UK editions of American self-help books and children's picture books.
Open Library holds about 1,300 records under the World's Work imprint. Its self-help titles included several Dale Carnegie books, among them How to Win Friends and Influence People (a World's Work paperback is recorded for 1953), along with Frank Bettger's How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success in Selling and Edith Head's The Dress Doctor. On the children's side it issued American picture books and early readers such as Else Holmelund Minarik's Little Bear's Visit (World's Work, 1962; first published by Harper in 1961), Arnold Lobel's Frog and Toad All Year (World's Work, 1977; first published 1976), and books by Peggy Parish, Paul Galdone and Esphyr Slobodkina.
It also published original non-fiction, including Mihir Bose's The Aga Khans (1984). Because many of its titles appeared first in the United States, a World's Work copy of such a book is normally a later British edition, not the true first edition.
