Is my book valuable?: The value checker is a step-by-step guide to whether a book is worth money: it finds the edition, checks the printing and the condition. It returns a value range from recorded sales of the same printing where we hold them, and says what to check where we do not. Last checked .

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my book is valuable?

Three things decide most of a book's value: whether it is the first printing of the first edition, its condition (and its dust jacket's), and demand for the title. This tool finds the edition, checks the printing against the points we have researched, takes your grading and shows the value range where we have recorded one.

Are old books worth money?

Age alone adds little. A common nineteenth century book in poor condition is often worth less than a fine modern first edition of a sought-after title. Importance, edition, printing and condition matter far more.

Is this a formal valuation?

No. It is a guide from recorded sales and our research. For insurance or a sale of an important book, ask a specialist dealer or auction house, and see our guide to insuring a collection.

What if my book is not in the catalogue?

Use the number line decoder and the book club edition checker on your copy, and read how much is my book worth. Members can ask us to add a missing edition.
