About Candace Camp

Candace Camp (born 1949) is an American romance novelist who has published historical and contemporary romances under her own name and as Lisa Gregory, Kristin James and Sharon Stephens. She was born Candace Pauline Camp in Amarillo, Texas, on 23 May 1949.

The daughter of a newspaper reporter and the business manager of the Amarillo paper, she began writing stories at the age of ten. She studied at the University of Texas at Austin and West Texas State University, taught in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and later worked in a bank trust department in North Carolina before starting law school at the University of North Carolina. She wrote her first novel while studying law and gave up law to write full time once it sold.

That first novel, Bonds of Love, was published in 1978 under the name Lisa Gregory. As Kristin James she wrote a long run of romances in the 1980s and 1990s, including The Golden Sky (1981), Secret Fires (1984) and Satan's Angel (1988), which launched the second series of the Harlequin Historical imprint. In all she has written more than 70 novels, with series including the Mad Morelands, Willowmere and the Aincourts. She lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband Pete Hopcus; her daughter Anastasia Hopcus is also an author.

For collectors, completing a run means tracking her work across four names. The Lisa Gregory debut of 1978 and the early Kristin James titles are the starting points of her bibliography.
