About Christopher Pike

Christopher Pike is the pen name of Kevin Christopher McFadden (born 1954), an American author of young adult horror and thrillers whose teen thrillers began with Slumber Party in 1985.

He was born in New York City and grew up in California. After attempts at science fiction and adult mysteries, an editor suggested he try a teen thriller, and Slumber Party was published by Scholastic in 1985. Weekend and Chain Letter followed in 1986, after which he worked mainly with Simon & Schuster. Later titles include Remember Me (1989), Fall into Darkness (1990), Die Softly (1991), The Midnight Club (1994) and The Last Vampire (1994), which grew into a long series. For younger readers he wrote Spooksville, 24 books published between 1995 and 1998, and for adults he wrote novels such as Sati (1990). The director Mike Flanagan has put his output at about 80 books. He won the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire for a young adult novel in 1996.

Fall into Darkness became a television film in 1996, and Netflix released The Midnight Club, a series drawing on his books, in October 2022; it was cancelled after one season.

For collectors. His first book, Slumber Party, was published by Scholastic in 1985. Remember Me (1989) and The Last Vampire (1994) are the starting points of his two best-known sequences.
