Margaret Way books in order

Margaret Way (1935-2022) was an Australian romance novelist, born in Brisbane on 7 August 1935, who wrote more than 110 novels, most of them for Mills & Boon and its parent Harlequin.

Before she married Alan Way she worked in music as a pianist, teacher, vocal coach and accompanist. She turned to fiction after the birth of her son, having read Mills & Boon romances and decided she could write them herself. Her first novels sold in 1970, among them The Time of the Jacaranda, King Country and Blaze of Silk. She chose Australian settings as a way of promoting her country. Representative titles include Man from Bahl Bahla (1971), Storm Over Mandargi (1973), Ring of Fire (1978), The Butterfly and the Baron (1979), Lord of the High Valley (1980), North of Capricorn (1981) and No Alternative (1983). From 2013 she also published e-books herself. She died in Cleveland, Queensland, on 10 August 2022.

For collectors

Way's novels appeared under the Mills & Boon romance imprint from 1970 onwards. Her three 1970 titles, The Time of the Jacaranda, King Country and Blaze of Silk, mark the start of her career. Some novels were later reissued together in omnibus volumes, such as the 1981 collection of Summer Magic, Ring of Jade and Noonfire, so the date and contents of a volume show whether it is a first appearance or a later gathering.
