About Mary Balogh

Mary Balogh (born Mary Jenkins on 24 March 1944 in Swansea, Wales) is a Welsh-Canadian novelist of historical romance, known for her Regency-era series including the Bedwyn Saga and the Survivors' Club.

She grew up in post-war Swansea and moved to Kipling, Saskatchewan, in 1967 on a two-year teaching contract. She stayed, married Robert Balogh, and taught high-school English for twenty years, later becoming a principal, before retiring from teaching in 1988. She began writing in 1983, and her first novel, A Masked Deception, was published by Signet in 1985, earning her the Romantic Times award for best new Regency writer.

Most of her fiction is set in Regency or Georgian England and Wales. Her major series are the six Bedwyn "Slightly" novels, from Slightly Married (2003) to Slightly Dangerous (2004); the Simply Quartet (2005 to 2008); the Huxtable Quintet, beginning with First Comes Marriage (2009); and the seven-book Survivors' Club, from The Proposal (2012) to Only Beloved (2016). She has written more than 60 novels and over 30 novellas and lives in Saskatchewan.

For collectors

Her early Signet Regency paperbacks of the 1980s, starting with A Masked Deception (1985), are the natural starting point for a collection. Among her later books, the first printings of the opening titles of each series, Slightly Married (2003), First Comes Marriage (2009) and The Proposal (2012), mark the start of her best-known sequences.
