P. C. Cast

P. C. Cast (born 1960) is an American fantasy and paranormal romance author, best known for the House of Night young adult vampire series written with her daughter Kristin Cast. Phyllis Christine Cast was born in Watseka, Illinois, on 30 April 1960.

Before writing full time she taught English at South Intermediate High School in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Her first novel, Goddess by Mistake, was published in 2001 by the small press Hawk Publishing and later reissued as Divine by Mistake; it won the Prism, Holt Medallion and Laurel Wreath awards. She followed it with the Partholon (Divine) books and the Goddess Summoning series for Berkley (2003 to 2010). The House of Night series, published by St. Martin's Press, opened with Marked in May 2007 and ran to twelve novels ending with Redeemed (2014), plus four novellas and the later House of Night: Other World sequence (Blackstone, 2017 to 2020). The series spent 63 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list and has sold more than ten million copies in 39 countries. Her other books include Tales of a New World (2016 to 2018) and, with Kristin Cast, The Dysasters (2019), and Sisters of Salem (from 2021).

The 2001 Hawk Publishing edition of Goddess by Mistake is her first book, issued by an independent press before its mainstream reissue under a new title. For House of Night, the St. Martin's Press first printings of Marked and Betrayed (both 2007) are the starting points, with Atom, part of Little, Brown, also listed among the series' publishers.
