McGraw-Hill published the first edition in New York in May 1969. The first British edition is the Weidenfeld and Nicolson hardback of October 1969, London, ISBN 0297179357, 589 pages. Check the ISBN and imprint and look at the verso for any reprint line. Penguin's paperback, with Vivian Darkbloom's notes, is later. No source opened gives the jacket price or cloth colour.
