Market value

What decides the price

  • It is the first UK edition; the true first was published elsewhere.
  • The original dust jacket carries much of the price for a book of this age; its condition matters as much as the book's.
  • Condition is graded separately for book and jacket, from Fine down to Poor.

In short

Quick answer

Who published the Batman 1988 hardback?
Titan Books, London, in 1988, in hardback.
Identification

How to identify this edition

This is Batman: The Killing Joke, written by Alan Moore, drawn by Brian Bolland and coloured by John Higgins. DC Comics published it in the United States in March 1988 as a 48-page prestige-format one-shot. Titan Books issued the British edition in 1988 as a 48-page softcover with ISBN 1852860820, which separates it from the DC printings. The book was reprinted many times; CGC records a UK edition and a UK 3rd edition alongside the many DC printings, and notes that printings are distinguished by colour changes on the cover, so compare the cover as well as the imprint. The 2008 Deluxe Edition, recoloured by Bolland, and the recent facsimile reprints are not firsts.
