Market value

What decides the price

  • It is the first UK edition; the true first was published elsewhere.
  • The original dust jacket carries much of the price for a book of this age; its condition matters as much as the book's.
  • Condition is graded separately for book and jacket, from Fine down to Poor.

Quick answer

Who published the Blaze 2007 hardback?
Hodder & Stoughton, London, UK, in 2007, in hardback.
Identification

How to identify this edition

Issued under King's pseudonym Richard Bachman. The novel was written in 1973, set aside, and found again among King's papers in late 2006. The American first is the Scribner hardback of 12 June 2007 (ISBN 978-1-4165-5484-4). The British first is the Hodder & Stoughton hardback in dust jacket, London, 2007; check for the Hodder imprint on the title page and spine, no later impression on the copyright page, and an unclipped jacket. The Hodder paperback of 2008 (ISBN 978-0-340-95224-5) is a later edition.

Publisher's practice

How Hodder & Stoughton marked its first editions

Early Hodder & Stoughton books have no consistent first-edition marking, so they are identified title by title from the points recorded for each book rather than by a house rule.

Allen and Patricia Ahearn's publisher list for ILAB says that before the 1940s the firm had no consistent practice for marking first editions or later printings. Ash Rare Books, writing about H. S. Boutell's 1928 guide, records that Hodder told Boutell its methods varied with every book.
