First published in the United States by Delacorte Press in 1999 (ISBN 0385323069); it won the 2000 Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Author Award. The earliest British edition found is a Corgi children's paperback dated 6 February 2003, ISBN 0552548529 / 9780552548526, 246 pages. Corgi reissued it in 2012 (ISBN 9780552566636) and Penguin took it over in 2019 (ISBN 9780241382592), so check the ISBN and the earliest date on the copyright page. Yearling, Scholastic and other US paperbacks are American editions, not UK ones.
