The first English edition, Macmillan and Co., London 1897 (Stewart 163), followed the American edition: Bauman dates the London issue 18 October 1897 against 16 September for the American. Octavo of vii plus 245 pages with publisher's advertisements at the end. Bound in blue cloth with pictorial gilt designs on the front cover and spine, all edges gilt. Illustrated after I. W. Taber with a frontispiece and plates, counted by dealers as 21 or 22 besides the frontispiece. A copy with an American imprint is the earlier US edition, not the English first.
