Market value

What decides the price

  • It is the first edition, which is the one collectors want.
  • The original dust jacket carries much of the price for a book of this age; its condition matters as much as the book's.
  • Condition is graded separately for book and jacket, from Fine down to Poor.

In short

Quick answer

Who published the Constant Nymph first edition?
Heinemann, London, in 1924, in hardback.
Identification

How to identify this edition

Heinemann published the novel in London in 1924, a year before the Doubleday, Page edition from Garden City, New York (1925) and the Tauchnitz English-language edition from Leipzig (1925). Look for the Heinemann imprint and 1924 on the title page. Heinemann kept the book in print for decades (further Heinemann printings are recorded for 1926, 1959 and 1968), so check the back of the title page for any later printing date. A 1926 Heinemann book with the same title is the stage version written with Basil Dean, not the novel. Penguin (1969) and Virago (1983) paperbacks are much later. UNVERIFIED: page counts disagree; Open Library gives 336 pages for the 1924 Heinemann edition, while the Wikipedia infobox gives 344.
