The true first edition is American (G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York, October 1981). The first UK edition followed from The Bodley Head in London in 1982 (ISBN 0 370 30448 9), in a dust jacket with the price on the front flap. Dealers describe it as first UK edition, first printing; check the copyright page for any later impression statement, and note that clipped jackets lose the price. A jacket priced in dollars belongs to the Putnam edition.
