Harcourt, Brace published Sartoris in New York on 31 January 1929. Chatto & Windus did not issue it in London until 1932, its fourth Faulkner title there; one copy collates [6], 380, [2] pages. The first binding is the publisher's blue cloth, in a printed paper jacket. Copies in other cloths belong to later bindings of the same sheets: one dealer offers a tan cloth copy with ink-stamped spine lettering, without the publisher's advertisements and in a Centaur Library jacket, and calls the binding a second state.
