Viking Press, New York, published the true first in 1965, in brown paper boards with a cloth spine; that edition is American. Britain had to wait until 1973, when Allen Lane in London issued the first UK edition as a hardback in dust jacket, ISBN 0713904666. Look for the Allen Lane imprint dated 1973 and no record of a later impression. Later British reissues carry other publishers' imprints and are not firsts.
