The Hellbound Heart first appeared in 1986 in Night Visions 3, an anthology edited by George R. R. Martin and published by Dark Harvest in the USA, with stories by Ramsey Campbell, Lisa Tuttle and Clive Barker; that Dark Harvest hardback is the true first edition. The first British appearance is the Century hardback of 1987, titled simply Night Visions, ISBN 0-7126-1155-X, 298 pages, carrying a 1986 copyright date. The novella was not published as a book on its own until 1991, after the film Hellraiser, so any standalone Hellbound Heart is a later edition.
