Market value

What decides the price

  • It is the first UK edition; the true first was published elsewhere.
  • The original dust jacket carries much of the price for a book of this age; its condition matters as much as the book's.
  • Condition is graded separately for book and jacket, from Fine down to Poor.

In short

Quick answer

Who published the This Immortal 1967 hardback?
Hart-Davis, London, in 1967, in hardback.
Identification

How to identify this edition

The novel first appeared, abridged, as '...And Call Me Conrad' in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction (October and November 1965), then as an Ace paperback in New York in 1966 (Ace F-393, 40 cents), the true first book edition. The Rupert Hart-Davis hardback of 1967 is both the first British edition and the first hardcover edition anywhere. It is an octavo in boards with a dust jacket, and the copyright page carries the statement 'First published in Great Britain 1967'. The Panther paperback of 1968 and the Gollancz paperback of 2000 are later. Wikipedia notes that a 1980s book club edition showed some magazine cuts were still unrestored in the earlier book texts.
