Not the true first: St Martin's Press, New York, published the American first in 1986 as a 337-page hardback (ISBN 0312898959), and Berkley issued a mass-market paperback in 1987. The earliest British edition found is a Titan Books paperback of September 1992, about 352 pages, ISBN 185286432X, subtitled 'The Shocking True Story of America's Most Bizarre Mass Murderer'. Titan reissued the book in paperback in 2007 under ISBN 9781845765316, so check the ISBN on the back cover and the date on the copyright page.
