About Bloomsbury USA Childrens
Bloomsbury USA Children's Books is the American children's and young adult list of the London publisher Bloomsbury, launched in New York in May 2002 under its founding publisher Victoria Wells Arms.
Bloomsbury Publishing was founded in London in 1986 by Nigel Newton and became famous as the original publisher of the Harry Potter books from 1997. It set up Bloomsbury USA in New York in 1998 for adult titles, and the children's division followed four years later. Its first list in 2002 had 20 titles, only two of them from American authors; by 2007 the staff had grown from three to 20 and well over half of the planned list originated in the United States. Bloomsbury bought the American house Walker and Company in the mid 2000s (sources give 2004 or 2005), and Walker Books for Young Readers then ran alongside the Bloomsbury list.
Notable books include Shannon Hale's Princess Academy (a 2005 Newbery Honor book), David McLimans's Gone Wild (a 2007 Caldecott Honor book) and Renée Watson's Piecing Me Together, which won the 2018 Coretta Scott King Author Award and a Newbery Honor. Sarah J. Maas is among its bestselling authors. By its twentieth anniversary in 2022 the list had collected more than 400 starred reviews and awards including the Printz Award and the National Book Award.
