About Feiwel & Friends
Feiwel & Friends is a New York children's and young adult hardcover imprint of Macmillan, founded by the editor Jean Feiwel and best known as the original publisher of Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles.
Feiwel had spent more than two decades running the trade side of Scholastic, where she built paperback series such as Goosebumps, The Baby-sitters Club and Animorphs. When she left Scholastic, Holtzbrinck chief executive John Sargent recruited her within hours, and in 2006 she joined Macmillan as senior vice president and publisher of a new children's unit. Feiwel & Friends was set up that year and issued its first hardcover list in autumn 2007, with Liz Szabla as editor in chief. Its paperback sister line, Square Fish, appeared in spring 2007.
An early success was a reissue of Nancy Tillman's self-published picture book On the Night You Were Born, which went straight back to press after a 50,000-copy first printing. Feiwel bought Marissa Meyer's four-book Lunar Chronicles at a two-day auction; Cinder came out on 3 January 2012 with an announced first printing of 250,000 copies, followed by Scarlet (2013), Cress (2014) and Winter (2015). Feiwel later launched Swoon Reads, a crowdsourced teen romance imprint, in September 2013.
Feiwel & Friends remains part of Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, which belongs to the German Holtzbrinck group.
