About Hay House
Hay House is an American publisher of self-help, mind-body-spirit and personal growth books, founded in 1984 by Louise Hay; Penguin Random House announced its acquisition on 12 December 2023.
Hay had self-published Heal Your Body in 1976, a small pamphlet pairing physical ailments with what she saw as their likely mental causes. She expanded it into You Can Heal Your Life (1984), which reached the New York Times bestseller list after she appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Phil Donahue Show in the same week in March 1988. The company was incorporated in 1987. Reid Tracy joined as an accountant in 1988 and became chief executive in 1990. Hay died in 2017.
Hay House became the main publisher for many writers in the same field, including Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Esther and Jerry Hicks, Suze Orman, Iyanla Vanzant, Marianne Williamson and Joe Dispenza. It is based in Carlsbad, California, with offices in New York and London, and in 2010 it set up the self-publishing arm Balboa Press with Author Solutions.
Hay House had been a distribution client of Penguin Random House Publisher Services since 2018. Under the 2023 deal, Tracy stayed on as chief executive and the publisher kept its editorial independence.
