About Hyperion Books for Children
Hyperion Books for Children is a children's imprint of Disney Publishing Worldwide, launched in 1990 and closely tied to Disney's Disney-Hyperion imprint.
Disney started Hyperion Books for Children alongside Disney Press in 1990, and the two were merged in 1995. The imprint sits within Disney Publishing Worldwide, the publishing arm of Disney Consumer Products, headquartered in Glendale, California. When Disney sold its adult trade house, Hyperion Books, to Hachette Book Group in 2013 (it became Hachette Books), Disney kept both Hyperion Books for Children and Disney-Hyperion.
The imprint first published Mo Willems's Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! (2003), a Caldecott Honor book, and Avi's Crispin: The Cross of Lead (2002), winner of the 2003 Newbery Medal. It also published The Battle of the Labyrinth (2008), one of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels, and Disney later added Rick Riordan Presents, an imprint of mythology-based middle-grade fiction.
Since 2023 Penguin Random House has distributed Disney Publishing Worldwide titles.
