About Peggy Oppong Books

Peggy Oppong Books is an Accra, Ghana imprint that publishes the novels of Peggy Oppong, the pen name of the Ghanaian journalist and novelist Margaret Safo (née Odame, 1957 to 2014).

Library records list a steady run of her titles under the imprint from the early 2000s to 2013, among them Julia's Dance, The Green Sunset, The Masquerader, Beneath the Cover, The Red Heifer, The Lemon Suitcase, The Little Blue Bell, The Black Heel, The Shark, The Lady Who Refused to Bow and Crocodiles in the Pillows. Some editions of No Roses for Sharon also name Graphic Packaging Limited. Her romantic fiction is the core of the list, and her novel End of the Tunnel was nominated for the 2004 International Dublin Literary Award.

Safo spent her career with the Graphic group in Accra: she became a staff writer in 1987, deputy editor of the weekly The Mirror in 1998 and its editor in 2003, and retired in 2011 so she could concentrate on writing and publishing her novels. She died in Accra on 8 May 2014. A family connection to the imprint continued: her daughter Sedina Safo was working at Peggy Oppong Books at the time of her death.
