About Random House Books for Young Readers

Random House Books for Young Readers is a children's imprint of Random House Children's Books, the children's division of Random House in New York, which has been part of Penguin Random House since 2013.

Random House itself was founded in 1927 by Bennett Cerf and Donald Klopfer. Its children's division now holds a large group of imprints, among them Beginner Books (acquired in 1960), Step Into Reading, Golden Books, Delacorte Press and Yearling, with Random House Books for Young Readers listed alongside them. In an editorial realignment in 2001 the imprint was placed under publisher Kate Klimo, shortly before Random House bought Golden Books for $84.4 million and formed a Random House Young Readers Group under her.

The Random House children's list includes Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Tree House series, which began with Dinosaurs Before Dark in 1992, and N. D. Wilson's 100 Cupboards (2007). Random House merged with Penguin Group on 1 July 2013 to form Penguin Random House, which has been wholly owned by Bertelsmann since April 2020.
