About Simon Pulse

Simon Pulse is the young adult imprint of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, created in 2001 when the teen line Pocket Pulse moved into the children's group and took the Simon Pulse name.

The line launched in 1999 as Pocket Pulse, one of the Pocket Books imprints. In a 2001 reorganisation of Simon & Schuster's children's paperback business, Pulse became the group's teen-focused paperback imprint, taking over the teen titles previously issued under Aladdin and Archway and adding some paperback originals. After the change Pulse and Aladdin reported to the same associate publisher, and Pulse later issued hardcovers as well as paperbacks.

Its list included Scott Westerfeld's Uglies sequence (Uglies and Pretties, 2005; Specials, 2006) and his Leviathan trilogy (2009 to 2011), as well as Orson Scott Card's Pathfinder (2010). It also put out editions of John Christopher's Tripods books (2003) and Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising sequence (2007).

The imprint went on hiatus in 2021 without an explanation from the publisher. In February 2026 Simon & Schuster announced its return, with a new list of young adult mysteries, thrillers, horror and romantic comedies from May 2026. Simon & Schuster itself has been owned by the investment firm KKR since October 2023.
