About Atria Books
Atria Books is a general-interest imprint of Simon & Schuster in New York, founded in 2002 by the publisher Judith Curr and now the lead imprint of the Atria Publishing Group.
Its launch title was Marlo Thomas's anthology The Right Words at the Right Time, which sold so strongly in hardback that the paperback was put back. In its first years the list was mainly hardbacks with some trade paperbacks. The group has since gathered other lists, including Emily Bestler Books (2011), Washington Square Press (started by Pocket Books in 1959), Beyond Words, 37 INK (2013), Strebor Books and, from 2012, the Christian publisher Howard Books. In 2012 about a quarter of Atria's 98 titles belonged to its African American publishing programme. Libby McGuire was publisher by 2021.
Atria's authors include Jodi Picoult, Jennifer Weiner, Isabel Allende and Fredrik Backman. It has also taken on self-published writers, signing 18 books by eight of them in 2013, and in 2014 a fan campaign led it to print a Colleen Hoover e-novella. Simon & Schuster passed from Paramount Global to the investment firm KKR when the sale completed in October 2023.

How to identify Atria Books first editions
What to look for
Atria only dates from 2002, so an Atria book with an earlier date is probably a later Atria reissue of an older title, or a data error; check the copyright page.
From 2000
Simon & Schuster has used a number line on the copyright page since the 1970s. In current practice the lowest number shown is the printing, even when the numbers run out of order (for example 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2); a "1" means a first printing.
A "First Edition" statement alone does not prove a first printing, because publishers sometimes leave it on later printings; read the number line.
Book club copies, such as Book of the Month editions, can show a jacket with no price, a small blind stamp low on the back board, or a smaller size than the trade edition.
