About Tyndale House

Tyndale House Publishers is an American Christian publisher founded in 1962 by Kenneth N. Taylor and based in Carol Stream, Illinois, best known for the Living Bible, the New Living Translation and the Left Behind novels.

Taylor started the company to publish Living Letters, a paraphrase of the New Testament epistles he had written while commuting to his job at Moody Press in Chicago; a television endorsement by Billy Graham helped it sell. The complete Living Bible followed in 1971, and Publishers Weekly reported it as the best-selling book in the United States from 1972 to 1974. In 1996 Tyndale issued the New Living Translation, a translation rather than a paraphrase, prepared by about 90 Hebrew and Greek scholars. Its copyright is held by the Tyndale House Foundation, a sister organisation that uses a share of the profits for charitable grants.

In fiction, Tyndale published the Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins from 1995 to 2007, beginning with Left Behind in 1995. By 2016 the series had sold about 65 million copies, and several volumes reached number one on the New York Times list. Tony Dungy's Quiet Strength (2007) was a New York Times number one in hardcover non-fiction.

Taylor's son Mark D. Taylor later succeeded him as chief executive, and Scott Mathews took the role in 2021, the year Tyndale bought Hendrickson Publishers and Rose Publishing.
