VCE English and EAL text list 2027

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority publishes the VCE English and EAL text list each year, about eighteen months ahead, and the 2027 list is the one Year 12 students will sit in November 2027. Schools choose from List 1 and List 2 to cover the reading, creating and comparing areas of study, so no student reads every text; the list mixes Australian writing with world literature, poetry collections, plays and films.

Two of the Australian titles are the collecting stories here. Picnic at Hanging Rock was published by F. W. Cheshire in Melbourne in 1967 in a small printing, before the Chatto and Windus London edition of 1968, and the Cheshire first in its jacket is one of the most sought-after Australian books of the century. My Brilliant Career was published by William Blackwood in Edinburgh in 1901, when Miles Franklin was twenty-one, and a first edition is scarce anywhere. Jane Eyre (Smith, Elder, 1847) is the rare-book entry; Educated and Orbital are modern firsts still available at cover price, and Orbital's 2024 Booker Prize win has already lifted its Jonathan Cape first printing.
