About Patterns of Fashion
Patterns of Fashion is a series of books on the cut and construction of historical clothing, begun by the British dress historian Janet Arnold (1932 to 1998). Arnold wrote the first four volumes: volumes 1 and 2 were first published by Wace in 1964 and 1966, volume 3 by Macmillan in 1985 and volume 4 by Macmillan in 2008. The School of Historical Dress published volume 5, on stays, hoops and rumps, in 2018 and volume 6, on European women's dress c.1695 to 1795, in 2022, both credited to Arnold with Jenny Tiramani and other co-authors. Rights to volumes 1 to 4 passed from Macmillan to the School in 2020.
